* It's Dumpling Festival....

The annual "five-month, five-day" Dumpling Festival (colloquial for the fifth day of the fifth lunar month) is back.

In Singapore as with many countries with Chinese communities worldwise, this traditional Chinese festival is celebrated by the eating of a variety of steamed glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves.

===

The Story

For the uninitiated, Dumpling Festival (Duan Wu Jie) is also known as Dragon Boat Festival. It is celebrated in rememberance of Chinese poet Qu Yuan, who was a loyal official in the court of the Chu Kingdom in old China. Jealous of him, the other court officials schemed to frame him by telling lies about him in front of the fatuous emporor, resulting in Qu Yuan being banished from the court.

Over the next 20 years, the Chu kingdom got weaker and feeling sad that his beloved country was controlled by another country, Qu Yuan decided to end his life by jumping into the river.

Fishermen who heard that Qu Yuan drowned himself in the river set sail on boats to look for his body When they could not find it, they threw rice wrapped in bamboo leaves into the river so that the fish in the river would eat the rice instead of his body.

Thus began the tradition of dragon boat races (creating a din to scare away the preying fish?) and eating rice dumplings on Duan Wu Jie.

Now... ladies, time to put aside your low-fat diet, 5-grain rice meal, or water diet. Go ahead, indulge yourself in this heavenly delight & immerse your lipstick lips in the juicy & oily fat-ladden glutinous rice dumplings..

my mistress got 2 'Orh Bak Kak' *

** In case u don't know what is 'Orh Bak Kak' is a hokkien slang for bruise eye.. meaning black eyes.

Well, I practically gave my mistress 2 'Orh Bak Kak' last Sunday. Muahhahaa.

Ok, before you condemm me as some paranoid woman-beater son of a b*tch, dragged my half alive body to Bt. Timah hill, stick my ass up a pole & start stoning me with any rocks, pebbles and boulders you can find... Let me clarify myself.

My mistress = my car... the 'Orh Bak Kak' = .... (see below)

This thought just raced through my mind.. better blog it down in case I forgot.

Debt is a subtle enemy of financial well-being. It is poverty disguised as material prosperity.

Weirdos..

By the way.. here's the original b/w one..

A really nice lesson..

After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She said I love you but I know this other woman loves you and would love to spend some time with you.

The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my MOTHER, who has been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally.

That night I called to invite her to go out for dinnerand a movie."What's wrong, are you well," she asked?

My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of bad news. "I thought that it would be pleasant to spend some time with you," I responded. "Just the two of us."

She thought about it f or a moment, and then said,

"I would like that very much."

That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous about our date.

She waited in the door with her coat on. She had curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary. She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an angel's.

"I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed, "she said, as she gotinto the car. "They can't wait to hear about our meeting".

We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. My mother took my arm as ifshe were the First Lady.
After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print.Half way through the entries, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting there staring at me.

A nostalgic smile was on her lips."It was I who used to have to read the menu when you were small," she said."Then it's time that you relax and let me return the favor," I responded.

During the dinner, we had an agreeable conversation - nothing extraordinary, but catching up on recent events of each other's life. We talked so much that we missed the movie.

As we arrived at her house later, she said, "I'll go out with you again, but only if you let me inviteyou." I agreed.

"How was your dinner date?" asked my wife when I got home.

"Very nice. Much more so than I could have imagined,"I answered.
A few days later, my mother died of a massive heart attack.

It happened so suddenly that I didn't have a chance to do anything for her.

Some time later, I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place mother and I had dined.

An attached note said: "I paid this bill in advance. I wasn't sure that I could be there; but nevertheless, I paid for two plates - one for you and the other for your wife.
You will never know what that night meant for me. I love you, son."

At that moment, I understood the importance of saying in time: "I LOVE YOU!" and to give our loved ones thetime that they deserve.

Nothing in life is more important than your family.
Give them the time they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till "some other time."

More Janice's clips... enjoy!

Don't ever get this drunk...

Some advise...

Don't do it while cooking. If you must, keep the boiling oil far away... far far far away...

Downgraded

Just got news that my company will be shifting in 2 months' time.. 34flrs down.

Although I was told that it's a bigger space.. but should it be called expanding or contracting??

To me.. it's downgrading as I doubt it's the space issue which prompted the move.. more likely.. its the 'moola'* factor.

Quite a few cost-cutting measures has happen since I joined this company a mere 6 months ago.. the most shocking has got to be that for such an MNC.. we're now without an HR! Can u believe it??

I mean.. even a small local SME has an HR.

Well.. anyway, all these are just my deductions.. whether they're true or not.
It'll be reveal in time.. & that shouldn't be long, I guess.

On a brighter note.. I've at least got 2 more months to enjoy the great view here... heheh..

* it's $$

Janice Wei

As some of you might already know, I'm not really much a fan of chinese music... esp since I can only read at the pre-school's lvl.

Well, surpisingly.. was introduced to this singer by the name of Janice by my gf.. she's like practically singing it the whole day.. even her ringtone has her song.

So, it was just a matter of time b4 I actually took a liking to it as well.

In fact.. it's really not bad at all! Esp luv her eng rendition of "Goodbye (Prev sung by Airsupply.. My all time fav !!) " & " Chocolate & Ice" (Nice light perky song)

Managed to get her performance here.. enjoy.

I got a STREET!!

Guess what folks!?

Ok, now.. don't be jealous..

Finally after the last 50 long hard years of lobbying for World Peace (Those Ms Universe contestants are actually my employees... ssshh!), all my hardwork is being recognised.

And in that honor. UK has decided to name a street after me!! YES, a WHOLE street!!.

Muahahaha.. *evil grin*

And to prove I'm not a fluke.
As the PAP would love to say... show us the evidence.

Here u go...

Now, as friends and readers of my blog... (For a limited time Only!) I shall allow you to avoid the snaking queues for my autograph. Just send me an email & I shall allow you to cut the Q.

Peace to the World.

Bliss...

Spent a lazy sunday at home with my gf... though it was a pretty uneventful day (we woke up almost at 2pm!), we were just watching tv all day, pigging out on the couch, enjoying the occasional snacks & gluein our eyes on 'American Choppers' on Discovery Channel.

Wanted to head out to Queenstown during dinner time to look at some furniture but couldn't detach our asses from home.. hahah.. was showing Scooby Doo on tv.

Had a pretty ok western meal take-away courtesy of my mom.

Anyway... as I make it a point not to talk much about my personal life in this blog.. will just skip to the main point of this entry.

It's already 4am.. both of us cant sleep as we probably slept too much the night before. Was tossing around in bed & started singing to each other (ok, i know that sound a little mushy but it's really quite an experience hearing me sing.. much like hearing a frog sing.) After which, we started talking.. asking each other questions about ourselves. Eg. what is my fav color, what is my fav food, where is my birthmark, etc etc...

It's really nice.

A quality time.. I would call it.

Though I'm pretty tired by then and was trying to stay awake.. It's well worth it to sacrifice sleep for such quality time.

We were finding more about each other in a way.

Well.. at the end of it.. I guess both of us were pleasantly surprise of how much we actually know about each other.

Truly enjoy such heart to heart talk where you can almost bare your soul without fear of incurring any wrath.

It's 5.45am before both of us finally gave in to the Zzzz.. monster.

Guess we both woke up with a smile on our faces.. knowing that we woke up knowing that little more of each other.

Polling Day

Tomorrow is Polling Day in our rainy little island & yes, I’m definitly Pro-PAP.

I know that many in my Generation (considered the 3G - 3rd Generation of Singapore) are gradually shiftingtowards the sides of the opposition.

WTF are they thinking?!

I mean.. I can understand those 2G or 1G citizens if they support the Opps.. Generally speaking, they are less-educated & maybe lack the foresight to see ahead. So issues like lower bus fares or cheaper medical cost or even the over-hype lift-upgrading might seem the most important thing in the world for them.
But the 3Gs?? why are they thinking along the same line as them.. i wonder.

Ok, to my point of view... the stupid lift-upgrading, ministers salary, transportation & medical cost are factors worth talking about but WHAT is the crucial thing for a country??? Lifts that stop at every floor? Free bus/mrt ride? Free health care??

NO people!! Wake up man!

It’s the ability to function, to survive as a country that is the most important. And how do we do that? We need to prosper, to get investments, create jobs... CREATE A FUTURE!

What the hell do you want the damn lift to stop at every floor if you are jobless and can’t even afford a house? What the fuck is your concern if the minister’s pay are 10000 times more than yours? Would you rather them be paid well than have them get the same miserable pay as you are constantly thinking of ways to make more $$.

They will the succumb to the 1st chance at bribery & end up with a freaking corrupt goverment like some Asian countries. Investment will stop coming in. Law will be nothing more that dollar signs, Police are just after your $$, You can get away with anything, thus crime will shoot up, Peace will be nothing more than just a nice memory, More people will lose their jobs, WP,SDP,SDA will be laughing all the way to their Swiss banks, kids will hate their parents, grandparents will disown you and go on strike, your uncles & aunties will staged countless protests and you can just take the freaking lift to every freaking floor because you freaking voted for it as you deem it to be the freaking most important thing in your life!!

Now, how’s that for a wake-up call??

It might seem far-fetched for Singapore, but hello.... go read the papers.. this is actually HAPPENING in countries that is less than 5hr flight from Singapore.

It will be a REALITIY.

Damn, am I the only one that apprecaites what PAP has done for Singapore?
Look, imagine you are in charge of a little island. With no natural resources, no waterfall, no water supply, no gold to mine, no coal to dig, no oil to drill, no nothing.. U have nothing!! Just a piece of land. How in the world do you make it one of the world’s BEST cities to live & work in? How do you even survive?

Through a good leadership, a government that puts the country in front of everything else. That is the way I see it.Every Tom, DIck or Harry knows that if you want something, you gotta work for it, if you want a big tree to provide shade, you gotta work, sweat & toiled for it.

Then after you can enjoy the fruits of your labour.
Same theory, PAP has made some tough and unpopular decisions, like GST, ERP, COE.. but have you considered that our taxes are considered one of the lowest on the world? ERP - before that, we have those tickets that we have to drive to certain spots to Q, pay & stick the paper on our windscreens to enter the CBD. ERP just made our lives BETTER.. more convenient.COE - As much as I detest the idea of paying $16k for a piece of paper for my car, I understand the need to have this system. Imagine our streets are like that of Bangkok where cars move at 10KM/h. I would rather buy a bicycle.

Yes, I’m grateful to our MM, SM, PM & PAP. I appreacite what they have achieved despite the obstacles & challenges. They have done a great job & they ARE still doing a great job.

So in my opinion,

If you want freedom of speech like in TW.. migrate there!
If you want cheap transport like BKK, migrate there!
If you want free health care like Macau, migrate there!
If you want lift that stops at every floor like hotels, move in there!
If not, support the PAP.... unless you think you or the party you are voting for can do a better job.

But I doubt it.

PMS

Been slacking abit these 2 days. Guess its that time of the month again...

Yes, I admit I got PMS... hahhaah

Work-PMS I mean. Don't u feel that sometimes you feel like a charging train but certain times u just completly loses steam & come to a standstill.

Maybe this applies to my profession only, i mean.. hey the brain needs a break too.

Creativity is not a river that flows non-stop, its a 'long-kang' (drain), sometimes got water, sometimes no. When it's dry.. I need to take a break... go out find some water to pour in.

U know what I mean?

Or mayb I need a better drainage system.

heck.

Don't Mess with her...

Stumbled upon this gay blog... & kinda made me wonder... what made 'them' gays or les..?
Is it disappointment of the opposite sex? I mean, what do they see in each other..??

I dunnoe about u but I really can't stomach the thought of f*cking with someone of the same sex as me.. it's just plain gross.

Don't mean the offend the gay community here but it's really gross seeing grown well-toned man acting all girly. SICK!!

Eleen was just commenting how would she feel if her son turn out this way..

To me.. I think I rather go with the thought of not having a son if he turn out this way.. Bet it's a major blow to any parents.

But gotta give them some credit.. at least 'he' was brave enough to blog about their love & they're really sweet together.. doubt normal couples are as loving as them.

God, can't believe I just said they're sweet!
