wednesday's thoughts
A buddy

Let me introduce my buddy.

Just a short history.. I've known him for 8 years.. coming 9 soon.
He's my best buddy as he's always there for me, whenever I needed a listening ear. He'll listen attentively with those big eyes staring at you assuring you of his undivided attention. He will not complain nor feel tired even though I usually rattled and whined in the unearthly hours of the morning.

He'll accompany me whenever I needed a company.. especially when you feel the void of loneliness encapsulating you. He's such a relief.. such a life-saver.

He doesn't complain, doesn't bother you but will always be on your side if you needed someone. In short.. he gives me strength at times when I feel life is draining me dry.

The love we have for each other takes more than just mere words to express. Its just like an unspoken affinity between 2 entities.. destined and defined.

No wonder as the saying goes.. they are really man's best friend.

Here's my buddy..

Pig Year

It's just a little over 3 weeks from the Lunar New Year.

" For the benefit of the non-chinese, Lunar New Year is the chinese New Year.. unlike the normal calender year where 31st Dec/1st Jan marks the new year.. for the chinese... we follow a so-called Lunar Calender, where each new year is on a different date.. based on the Moon's oscillation. Usually this happens in Jan-Mar of each year and each year is said to belong to a certain animal of the chinese Zodiac signs.

A little similiar to horoscopes where each month has a different symbol, the chinese zodiac is on a yearly basis and this year is the Year of the Pig.

So what do we do on this much celebrated and most important day of the chinese calender?
It all start about a month before the 1st day of the lunar new year, where families will do a huge spring cleaning to ensure their homes are spotlessly spick and span.

The night before the New Year, families would make it a point to return home for a reunion dinner, no matter where in the world each family member are.. and after the dinner, according to tradition, the children are supposed to stay up late into the night as a sign of longevity for their parents.

During the new year, families will don new clothes and shoes and be visiting relatives at their home and usually the younger family will visit the older ones and in turn, those younger than them will visit them at their homes" Each family will carry 2 mandarin oranges as a form of greeting and well-wishes to the visiting family, and in turn they will be given back another 2 when they leave.

The kids are the happiest though.. all unmarried members of the family are given 'Angpows' or Red Packet with cash inside. Most familes will prepare a gastronomical array of New Year goodies such as pineapple tarts, egg rolls, dried-prawn crackers, pastries, cookies and of course, 'bah kua' or bbq pork.

Firecrackers, mostly banned in many countries now.. used to be a common sight during the new year as according to legends, the loud sounds emitting from the firecrackers are used to frighten away an ancient monster called "Nian" which will terrorise the villages during the New Year.

All this visiting, feasting and catching up takes place over a period of 15days when the Lunar New Year ends and poeple begin to close their doors once again. "

The World's a Stage

Sometimes I think life's all but a stage.. where everyone had a different role to play.. be it the actors/actresses, directors, producers, cameraman, scriptwriters, lighting specialist, composers or the workmans... all very different in reponsibilities but equally critical in their capacity.

Often the actors/actresses work hard, putting on a mask.. potraying the lives of others, yet some may find themselves lost in the process. When the mask comes off, they only see space in the mirror. They might ask themselves, is it worth it.. to have work so hard but paid for it with their identity.

The directors.. constantly barking at the crew, making sure each scene is script-perfect, ensuring budget is not blown and only to be scoffed at by the producers and the crew. Tough job.. but someone's gotta do it, right? The perfect 'sandwich' example.

Hmm.. producers. The one with the huge cheque book. Sitting back, hoping and praying their investments will make them more moolas ($$). Most of them have disfunctional ears and over-active mouth.

Scriptwriters, these reclusive bunch are often the unsung heros. Providing the brains behind the movie, they work tirelessly and into the wee hours of the night and are usually paid peanuts. Sad.

Cameraman, lighting specialist, composers and workmen.. these group of people are also the unsung heros.. these behind the seen workers are the hands and legs of the whole production. Often taken for granted, few realised the importance of their role but any absence is sorely felt. Like the scripwriters, they toiled endlessly behind the camera, and into the night... and also like the scripwriters.. they get peanuts.

So, does this applies to your workplace? If so, what are you....??

This is pretty cool! A desk that automatically charges all your stuff.. no adapter needed! Now, every office should have one..!

If only this material could be integrated into linen or cotton.. hmm.. now wouldn't that be something... Never run out of batt!! (Bad news though.. for people who uses 'Low Batt' as an excuse to avoid annoying people.. hahaa)

BLOG

Just realised that this is my 203rd post! Never thought I'll actually get a blog going this long and having so many craps to blog about.

Talking about Blogs.. was wondering what does B.L.O.G actually stands for?? Anyone knows?

According to its definition:

" A frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and Web links.

A blog is often a mixture of what is happening in a person's life and what is happening on the Web, a kind of hybrid diary/guide site, although there are as many unique types of blogs as there are people.

People maintained blogs long before the term was coined, but the trend gained momentum with the introduction of automated published systems, most notably Blogger at blogger.com. Thousands of people use services such as Blogger to simplify and accelerate the publishing process.

Blogs are alternatively called web logs or weblogs. However, "blog" seems less likely to cause confusion, as "web log" can also mean a server's log files. "

Ok, so that explains what a "blog" is.. but what does it really stands for? I mean as in B=, L=, O=, G=?

After numerous searches in Wiki, Google, Yahoo and other sites.. there's actually no term for Blog.

So, thought I'll create one..
